Outreach Award

Win a Telescope & Share the Wonders of the Night Sky!

Bring Astronomy to Your Community - Win an SSVI Telescope!

At Beamline for Schools, we believe that science doesn’t stop at the lab—it extends to the stars! The Outreach Award celebrates students who share their passion for science with their communities. This year, the organiser of the “Stars Shine For Everyone” (SSVI) project will award optical telescopes to the BL4S teams submitting the 15 best outreach proposals. These telescopes are very special because they have been signed by Nobel Prize Laureates and the General Director of CERN. SSVI is “an astronomy project for children with disabilities and underserved communities around the world”.

Want a chance to win a telescope? All you need to do is organise a science outreach activity in your community. This can be in the form of a physics lesson, a project or an introduction activity to a target group. For instance, you could come up with a fun, creative way to introduce physics to children from underserved areas in your region. The key is to make it inclusive and share your passion for science with those who have limited access to it. In your proposal, describe the outreach activity your team has already done or plans to organise (up to 200 words, in addition to the 1000-word limit for your BL4S experiment proposal).

SSVI and BL4S will stay in contact with the teams who win the telescopes. We will ask them to document their activity and will showcase it on the SSVI/BL4S website as an inspiration for others.

Dare to dream and APPLY!

📢 "We want to make physics accessible to everyone by sharing our experiences and the amazing opportunities we've had!"

🚀 An astronaut’s message for you! 🌟

Samantha Cristoforetti, ESA astronaut, encourages you to apply:

"The world needs you. We need scientists, engineers, and mathematicians. We need you to bring your talent, your passions, and your drive to scientific research—to advance our knowledge, our technologies, and our ability to tackle the big challenges that the world faces.

🌟 A telescope inspiring young minds! 🔭✨

Mukisa Eddie, a student from M-LISADA Passion Primary School in Uganda, shares his excitement:

"This beautiful telescope is going to help us as the children of M-LISADA to see the stars, the moon, and the beauty of the Universe.

Thanks to SSVI in Belgium for making this possible!
